Terms of Use

Last updated: September 12, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are the rules for using SkateU, a campus skate-spot app. In these Terms, “SkateU,” “we,” and “us” mean Liam Jahyun Chu, a sole proprietor doing business as SkateU in Virginia. These Terms apply to the SkateU mobile app and related SkateU services, including skateu.app.

By creating an account or using SkateU, you agree to these Terms and to the Community Guidelines. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle information.

If you do not agree, do not create an account and do not use SkateU.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create a SkateU account.

If you indicate that you are under 13, we will not create an account. If an account was started, we will close it.

You can browse schools, maps, spots, photos, and comments without an account. Browsing without an account does not change the 13+ rule for accounts.

If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority where you live, you should only use SkateU with a parent or guardian’s permission.

SkateU includes schools and campuses, including K-12 schools and colleges. A school appearing in SkateU does not mean that school endorses SkateU, that skating is allowed there, or that SkateU is a product for children under 13.

2. Accounts

You can browse schools, maps, spots, photos, and comments without an account. An account is required to like spots, add or edit spots, post comments, use a profile, follow another account, save schools to your account, request that a spot be removed, report a comment or profile, or block another account.

You can create an account with an email and password, or sign in with Google or Apple where those options are available.

When you create an account, you pick a public username. Your email stays private. You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate account information
  • Keeping your password and sign-in methods secure
  • Activity that happens on your account

Tell us at support@skateu.app if you think someone else is using your account.

We may refuse, suspend, or close an account that violates these Terms or the Community Guidelines.

3. Skate spots and other content you submit

SkateU is built from what skaters share. If you have an account, you may submit:

  • Skate spots, including a name, description, map pin, and photos
  • A public profile bio
  • Comments and replies on spots
  • Likes
  • Requests to remove a spot, with a reason and optional details
  • Follows
  • Saved schools
  • Reports about a comment or a profile, with a reason and optional details
  • A list of accounts you block

You are responsible for the content you submit. Do not submit content you do not have the right to share.

You keep whatever ownership you have in your content. You grant SkateU a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt (including crop, resize, caption, and add SkateU branding), and share that content:

  • In SkateU, so other people can use the app
  • On SkateU’s official social media accounts (currently Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube) and similar SkateU promotional posts

When we feature a spot on social media, we may include the campus name and your public username when that is practical.

The in-app license lasts for as long as the content remains on SkateU. If you delete a spot or comment you posted, we will remove that content from the app when the product allows it. If you delete a spot or your account, we will not make new social posts from that content. Copies already posted on social media may remain until we remove them. Email support@skateu.app if you want a specific post taken down.

If you delete your account, spots you added stay in SkateU, unlinked from your account. Comments you posted stay in SkateU without your username. Likes, comment reports, account blocks, and your profile are deleted. See the Privacy Policy for details.

4. Photos

Spot photos must be images you have the right to upload. Do not upload photos of people who have not agreed to be shown, private spaces, or anything that is not yours to share.

When you upload a new spot photo, SkateU processes the file on our servers before it is stored. We remove extra information commonly stored in image files, including GPS coordinates, camera or device details, and capture timestamps. We keep the photo itself and preserve orientation so it still displays correctly. Photos uploaded before August 21, 2026 may still contain that extra information.

5. Location and maps

SkateU may use your device’s GPS location on the device, while you are using the app, to show you on campus maps. We do not store that GPS on our servers.

Campus maps are for finding schools and skate spots. When you add or edit a spot, you choose a pin on the map. We store those coordinates so other people can find the spot.

A pin is not permission to skate. It is not a claim that a place is public, safe, legal, or still there.

6. Accuracy, access, and skateboarding

Skate spots are submitted by users. Information can be wrong, outdated, incomplete, or misleading. A spot may be on private property, restricted, removed, or unsafe.

Skateboarding is risky. You skate at your own risk. SkateU does not inspect spots, does not control campuses, and does not promise that any place is safe or that you are allowed to skate there.

Follow local laws, school rules, and posted signs. Do not trespass. Do not use SkateU to plan or carry out anything illegal.

7. What you must not do

Do not use SkateU to:

  • Harass, threaten, or bully anyone
  • Post hate, slurs, or abusive content
  • Spam, scrape, or disrupt the service
  • Impersonate another person or pretend to represent SkateU
  • Post illegal content
  • Intentionally submit fake spots or misleading spot information
  • Abuse spot removal requests or other reporting tools
  • Upload content you do not have rights to
  • Share someone else’s private personal information
  • Bypass security, accounts, or technical limits
  • Use SkateU to facilitate wrongdoing

Follow the Community Guidelines. If those guidelines are stricter than this list for community behavior, follow the guidelines too.

8. Moderation

SkateU may review, refuse, hide, or remove content, and may suspend or close accounts, when we believe it is needed to protect the community or the service. We may use automated tools, including a third-party moderation service, to check usernames, spots, photos, comments, profile bios, and Help & Support messages before they are posted or delivered.

We do not promise to review everything, and we do not promise that harmful content will never appear.

For spots that may no longer belong in SkateU, signed-in users can submit a removal request in the app. Signed-in users can report a comment, report a profile, and block another account in the app. Other concerns can be sent to support@skateu.app.

SkateU may keep, hide, or remove a spot after review. A removal request is a request, not a guarantee that a spot will be taken down.

9. Intellectual property

SkateU, including the app name, branding, and the SkateU software, is owned by Liam Jahyun Chu (doing business as SkateU) or his licensors. These Terms do not give you ownership of SkateU.

Do not copy, scrape, or reuse SkateU or other people’s content except as the app allows.

If you believe content in SkateU infringes your copyright, email support@skateu.app with enough detail for us to find the content and respond.

10. Third-party services

SkateU uses third-party services to run, including sign-in providers, hosting, maps, email, content moderation, crash reporting, and product analytics. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices. SkateU is not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

Maps may load tiles and images from map providers. Sign-in with Google or Apple is handled by those companies.

11. Availability

SkateU is provided as-is. Features may change, break, or be discontinued. We may add, limit, or remove schools, spots, or parts of the app.

We do not guarantee that SkateU will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent allowed by law, SkateU is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. That includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that user-submitted spots, photos, comments, or other information are accurate, complete, current, safe, or lawful to use.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Liam Jahyun Chu will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of SkateU.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim relating to SkateU is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us to use SkateU in the 12 months before the claim, if any, or (b) twenty-five US dollars ($25).

Some places do not allow certain limitations. If those laws apply to you, some of the limits above may not apply.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where that limit is not allowed.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. If you have an account, we may also ask you to accept an updated version before you keep using account features.

If you continue to use SkateU after the Terms change, the new Terms apply to you. If you do not agree, stop using SkateU and delete your account.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
